How long has your kitten been gone? If it is not a long time, I would suggest going outside with a can of food or whatever you are used to feeding, and make noise with it to try to locate it. Walk around your house and neighborhood a bit doing this. I have done this before and it does work, though sometimes takes a while so you must be patient. You can also ask neighbors if they have seen your kitten, or if they could let you know if they do see it. A microchip will help identify the cat if someone finds it and takes it somewhere where they can read the chip. It is not a transmitter, though, meaning, it can't help locate a lost pet. If you do find your kitten again, it is a wise idea to keep it in the house most of the time, and only let it outside for short periods of time, and don't let it go outside unsupervised for at least a couple of months. This will help the cat learn to bond with you and know where home is, and also keep his little inexperienced self from getting hurt by other animals, people, or cars when he is so small and vulnerable. You can always try putting an ad in your local paper and putting up some signs in your neighborhood, too.
Good luck, I truly hope you find your kitty!

The Humane Society of the United States has some great tips to helping find a lost pet:
http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/finding_a_lost_pet.html
Don't forget to also mention it to your local UPS or Fed Ex carrier, along with your mailman.
A microchip will help a found 'lost' cat be returned to you. When the animal is found, a vet or shelter will scan it to see if there is a microchip. If there is, they contact the microchip company and let them know they found the pet. However, it's not lo-jack. It does not locate lost animals.
Why was your kitten allowed outside? Responsible pet owners do not allow their cats outside - it's far too dangerous. I hope you find your cat, and if you do, make her home inside permanently. Someone may have figured the cat was abandoned by being allowed outside, so hopefully a loving family now has her.
Good luck to you.

It helps if it somehow gets to a shelter or the pound for they will scan for a microchip and how they will then find you as the owner. Put a Lost kitten Ad in the local paper(lost animals ads are always Free-describe the kitty, say it has a chip and put your phone no.Also put lost Kitty posters throughout the neighborhood and go door to door-NOT ALONE-but with adult or at least a teen and always let parents know the route.who is goning to be with you and follow that route exactly-also take a cellphone when you AND Friends go looking-DO NOT GO into anyones house that you do not know-accept no ride from strangers-BE SAFEty Minded at all times. If there are food stores and or gas stations-get permission and then Post Lost Kitty posters for all people gt gaas and eat food. Also go on daily with Friends-Never Alone-looking for kitty walks in the neighborhood-a small kitty cannot go very far. Hope you find the kitty -Say a prayer for the kitty to be safe and that you find.

Hello there hunny! First of all I am incredibly sorry to have heard that from you. Second of all, if I were you, I would start displaying missing poster of your kitty. It does however depend on how long your feline friend has been missing. I have heard of this cat that went missing for weeks, he ended up escaping to another city and then in a few weeks later he came back to his owner, he travelled for a total of approximately 250 km! I am not joking! So yeah anything can happen!! And I have this cat yeah, and when he was a few months old he went missing! He didn't escape or anything like that, my family went nuts searching him for hours and believe me it was hard work. I was so upset looking everywhere!! So then I just randomly open my cupboard and there he is in a salad bowl! Boy am I amazed! So yeah anything can really happen and don't give up, I wish all the best for you and your little pal! Please notify me on how things are working out for you, I will appreciate it! Good Luck! :)

The microchip will help if anyone turns it in to a vet or the pound. They will read the chip and call you.
Till then, put up posters in the neighborhood and call the pound.

Awe. Darling...dont sweat. My kitty slipped out the door and I couldnt find him for 2 hours. I went insidde and came back outside with his food bowl, water bowl and his bag of food. I filled the food bowl with food and than I started to shake the bag of food and started calling his name. (I was in my back yard). I was shouting his name and I shook the bag as hard and loud as I could. And in less than 5 minutes, he was at my feet meowing.
If your sure hes not in a neighbours yard than you might want to take your kittys favourite toy, his bag of food, and lost posters. Walk around the block and shout out his name shake the bag, shake the toy (if it has a sound/jingle) and put the posters up. If you do that every morning and every night around the same time he might show up, if he doesnt...expannd your search to maybe 2 blocks, or the whole neighbourhood.
Than if that doesnt work, go door to door with a picture of your cat and ask if anyone has seen your cat. While you walk door to door, shake the bag of food, call his name while shaking and shake your cats favourite toy.
I really do wish your cat reaches its home again.
God Bless you and your cat and may he help you find your cat.
P.S: After you do find your cat there is a collar you can buy for your cat that has a tracking system on it, kinda like GPS. Than all you have to do is go on to the products website, type in a speacial code that you will be given and then you will see a map and you will see where your cat is located. Hope this sugegstion helps.

Hopefully whoever finds the kitten will take it to a vet so the vet can scan the microchip. If not, you may not get it back.

the microchip is not a tracking device, it is just a computerized dog tag essentially. if your cat is found, it is scanned to see if it has a chip. The chip can be 'read' by the gun, and will tell them who the cat's owner is.
Your best bet is to put strong smelling food out (canned food or tuna), and wait for kitty to follow its stomach home.
Best of luck
