My puppy thinks that we have to play ball with him 24 hours a day. Nothing I do can distract him. He likes to chew on his bones, but only when everyone refuses to play ball with him. He actually brings the ball and slams it down in front of you, then barks at you trying to make you throw it. He is a 7 month old laso apso. I am beginning to think that I live on the all ball all the time network. Any suggestions as to what I might be able to do to distract him. If I hide the ball he will not stop barking. HELP!!

My dog who is now 1, did that for several months, and finially stopped a few months ago. I believe my dog thought it was her job to ball fetch. When she first starting catching her toys we made a big deal of it, I think she was seeking that attention all the time after that. Best bet, as hard is it is, is to ignore her. Have certain times each day u play with her, and if its not that time, ignore her when she wants u to play. Its hard , but she will get over it, and used to her new play schedule. It just takes some time for their brain to be rewired. The barking will eventually stop. Also get lots of different texture toys for her to play with. It should keep her entertained when she isnt outside playing, walking, or getting kisses and hugs from you.

First, I would vist Cesar Milan's website listed in the sources. He is also known as the Dog Whisperer. I would recommend walking the dog on a consistent basis. When you walk the dog, use a choker chain, and keep it high. You control the walk. This is important for several reasons.

First, it teaches your dog that you are the alpha dog; the one in charge. Dogs are pack animals, and need an alpha dog. Right now, your dog is the alpha dog, and you need to take that role back.

Second, when you walk your dog, it gives your dog much needed exercise, both physically and mentally. If he is still showing too much energy, when you go for your walks, place a doggie back pack on him and put some objects in it that have some weight. Now, your dog has a task to do while on walks. Your dog will now burn more energy.

Dogs need something to do and when they don't get enough exercise or work, they will find ways to get it, by either digging holes, wanting to play all the time, or developing OCD behaviors.

When all else fails, call Cesar Millan!

Hahahahaha . . . I love the idea of a puppy having OCD.

He's just playful and energetic-that is completely normal for a puppy.

Good luck!

Yes, dogs can have problems with that sort of thing. You should look into Cesar Milan's book. You know, the dog whisperer. He deals with these kinds of issues all the time.

show him that you are in control. you need to be assertive but not aggressive when you do this. try to take him on frequent walks and make sure the collar is fixed on the top of head near the ears. make sure you are the one in control. but it is OK to show love to your dog.
