My mom wants me to do an after-school activity, but I really don't want to do one. Does anyone have any ideas for interesting and exciting after-school activities that don't take up much time (and maybe can be taught in a lesson format?) I'm really into fashion and writing. At school, I excel in Humanities and Math. Errmmmm . . . I'm 14 years old. I can't really think of any other info . . . any suggestions?

My school is private, and does not offer ANY afterschool activities, and there is no school play. :(
I'm also very un-athletic.

See what clubs your school offers and then go from there. I would think that would be best because none of us here would know what your school has to offer. There maybe things you could do in your community also if you can't find things at school.

You could always go into the school play or musical. That is an area of humanities. Even if you go for the behind the scenes stuff, it is good exposure to classic musicals and/or plays.
You could tutor younger children (as a volunteer) some schools have groups that do that.
Mock trials are also exciting for intellectual students. The school newspaper is good for people who like to write, as is yearbook (and that does not take up much time until they are getting ready to submit the publication) The newspaper would also give you the opportunity to write about fashion.
Good luck and keep looking! It helps to have an activity. You may discover something you are great at that you never would have thought of!

How can she tell you to do an afterschool activity and the school not even offer one...? I don't understand...
Tell her that, then tell her (if you aren't) that you're not into sports and see if the two of you can look around town to see if there are private classes or town hall or city classes that are offered in your community that are more of your interest. I get my community paper monthly that shows me what types of things are offered in my area- sometimes art, yoga, pilates, music and other random stuff.

I volunteered for the library club when my mother made me do that (many years ago, don't know if there even is such a thing now). I just hung out in the library and read everything and didn't have to deal with people. Whenever my mom asked a question I just pulled a random fact out of the air!

Does your school have academic teams like debate club or quizbowl? Like sports, they only last for a certain season, and they are usually in lesson format.

Maybe you could volunteer in your public library, or even in your local hospital. Both can be very interesting, and benefit you in the long run.

Try martial arts. It is good excerise and it will teach you to take care of yourself. It is also a good way of making friends and be a good role model for other girls. We are strong, we are true Americans!

Get a job at a bookstore. If you're fourteen, that means you're old enough. You just have to get a job permit from your school.
