If you are really interested to learn please purchase 3 vol. of the book called SAMAITHU PAAR by Meenakshi Ammal. It should be available in all big book shops. Their office is on the west bank of Mylapore Kapaleswarar temple. I do not know the correct address it is called Samaithu paar illam. You will get all recipes for traditional south Indian veg. food and tiffin items.

Secondly you can try the books of Mallika Badrinath which gives modern south Indian Veg. Preparations.

As I am a vegetarian myself I do not know about non-veg. books. This is the best way to learn cooking. Husband and wife just cook jointly, eat and enjoy. Best of luck-

Latha govardhan where do you live. You must ask question with a clear mind to get good answers.

Chalo, If you live in Tamilnadu, You have umpteen number of restaurents. Kerala too okay. Andhra & Karnataka lag behind in taste. Even chutney they make with ground nut seeds in andhra. No good.

Karnataka spoils the taste by adding jaggery in almost every thing. Go to these restaurents.

1) Kaliyakudi in Mayavaram-- Try their pongal

2) Kanda sakthi siva Vinayaka-- Salem Taste their chutney

3) Hotel Abirami Trichy opp bus stand-- try anything here

4) Hotel Femina, Hotel Ashok many many hotels in Tirchy

5) Go to any mess in Madurai and try you fall flat for the taste

6) Arya Bhavan by day & Night madurai

7) College House, Madurai

8) Sri Annapoorana Coimbatore Try anything you paise them for the taste

9) Murugan IDLY shop--- Chennai-- Taste their idly's

10) Hotel Saravana Bhavan-- any where in Chennai/USA

11) Anna Lakshmi -- Chennai-- taste their meals.

I can quote many many but please visit these places and you know how important taste matters. You can combine a divine tour as these places are holistic and dotted with sacred temples.

Enjoy.

There is a good book Meenakshi Ammal's Semaithu Paar, original in Tamil, but an English translation is also available. Good for Tamil style recipes. But only veg.
