Tonight I watched "There's Something About Mary" with my boyfriend of two months. Now I am not usually a person who cares or is bothered when he watches a girl go passed or whatever, but tonight during the movie he said, "I'm sorry but Cameron Diaz is really pretty." For some reason it broke my heart. I think it was because he doesn't say that stuff to me and it kind of made me self concious which I try really hard to be. Is it unreasonable for me to expect him to say something like that to me and not about other girls? Even if it means nothing?

Yes you're being unreasonable, and if you get all jealous over someone in a film you will drive him away (if he is normal and not a masochist).

Well Cameron Diaz IS really pretty. No harm in him saying that in my opinion. You're the one he's with so you should try not to let it bother you if he notices other girls. So long as that's all he's doing. Even if he doesn't say it, he's probably thinking it. You could always point out a few hot guys to him.

Yes, this is unreasonable of you. Our society idolizes Hollywood glamour and beauty. So, it is natural for men and women to say those things about stars, especially when they are watching them in movies (I don't think she is all that pretty, by the way). You have only been with him two months. Give it time, and don't have this great expectation that will disappoint both of you.

He should be giving you similar compliments. I wouldn't worry. Some guys are just oblivious to feelings of others at times and he's not realizing that this bothers you. Just come back with "You think she's hot you should see (your fav hunk star here)" That should wake him up a little. A dose of his own medicine. P.S. Cameron Diaz is not that hot. I saw her without makeup!

He just wanted to express himself....it's safe to say something like that about a celebrity. To say it to you takes a little more courage. Even though you've been dating for a few months, maybe he's just not comfortable saying affectionate things yet. Does he show you in other ways?? He's with you for a reason. Don't sweat the small stuff.

There is not reason to beat urself up over this. Although it would have been nice if he would have kept his comments to himself, it is only human nature to check out the people around you. ANd like others have said he is with you, not with her. plus what makes her look the way she does is all the make up and the hours and hours spent tryin to be that pretty... i'm sure he thinks ur beautiful the way you are otherwise he wouldnt be with you!

WHOA.....getting mad at him for that is like him getting mad at you for pointing out that Johnny Depp is sexy. If you never say stuff like that, then neither should he. Just tell him that it hurts your feelings. Sometimes when i make a pouty face around guys when they say that, they will make it up by say "Except your way prettier." Even though that is a lame way out, it stills proves that i have more control over them then the famous girl. Its not like he said your sister is really pretty or anything so you should just shake it off.

I don't think its unreasonable. The other people are right about it being part of human nature to find other people/celebrities attractive, but he shouldn't just say something like that unless you asked him.

Well, not at all.
However, you can't be upset when he says that about other girls (especially celebrities that he'll never have) but its not good that he never says that stuff about you.

Let him know it bothers you. Next time he says that say "Too bad you don't think I'm pretty" and see what his reaction is. Then say, "Well I only thought that because you never tell me so."

Well, guys are just like that. I'm sorry. But anyways, just talk to him and I'm sure he'll tell you he thinks your pretty. I bet you are really pretty, soI bet he will say it sooner or later.
