Here's how it works.

Organization 'A' sponsors a TKD tournament. One guy wins, one guy looses. The guy that looses complains that the rules/judges caused him to loose. So, he forms Organization 'B' proclaiming that he has corrected all of the difficiencies in Organization 'A'.

Organization 'B' sponsors a TKD tournament. lather, rinse, repeat.

Oh, and don't forget that you have to pay to be a member of these organizations. So, which would you rather be? The one paying the dues, or the one collecting the dues?

TKD seems to have the biggest issue with this because of the tournament circuits and their ranking systems. Very similar to boxing. If you aren't ranked #1 in AAU, try crossing over to ITA where the competition isn't as good or something like that.

Also, if you try different schools, you can fill your Dobok up with cool patches like a NASCAR driver.

AAU is part of the Amatuer Athlete Union which not only has TKD but Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Soccer, Football, and lots of other sports. I don't know what ITA is but Taekwondo has to many governing bodies. It used to be the WTF and ITF was the biggest but the ITF is in such disarray right now with 3 different factions claiming to be the real ITF. well anyways to answer your question Taekwondo is Taekwondo no matter what organization. In the AAU you can either be WTF or ITF because in competition you can do either or for forms.

there are a number of different taekwondo styles, the main styles arequite different. ITF (international taekwondo federation) and WTF (world taekwondo federation).

I assume the same would go for ITA and AAU.

Different oranizations. TKD is badly balkanized. Makes it tricky when looking for a school.
