Wow.... I would have to say because we don't know how to set boundaries even with our family. We all have our own space that we need. IF you let your guard down or let people step on you then you will continue to be a 'doormat'.
Does that make since? This is something I have learned how to deal with the hard way. Married for over 15 years.

It's not that they are the first ones to hurt us, it's just that their hurt burns the most heat in us because they are closer to us than any friend or stranger could ever be.

Ever hear the phrase "You hurt the one's you love the most."?
This can be because we:
1) Care about them
2) We have unrealistic expectations of them
3) We have unrealistic expecatations of ourselves.
Just know that people are usually the best people they can possibly be, and that if they have wronged or hurt you it was more than likely not intentional.

It may also be that you hold their opinions in a higher regard for a variety of reasons or simply because they're family. Everything they say, no matter how small, will have more of an impact on you because of it.

Because they are the ones you love the most. The people you give the most love to have the most power to hurt you, even when they don't mean it.

They are the first one's to hurt you to get you ready for the world of hurt. If you can't take the criticizm at home then you can't take it out there in the world. It's for your own good.

Our pastor has always told us family and church people will hurt you the most the reason because they are closet to us

because we love them so much ... and once something just really small happens between you and your family ... u might feel theres nothing else for you ... but what every one needs to relize ... is that family will ALWaYS be there for you.

because kids wana do stupid $hit and our parents dont want us to so they say no and evetually it hurts.
