My dogs are very happy and well trained, but occasionally whine? Maybe they can hear something that I can't!

Dogs whine/cry for a number of different reasons it can be anxeity, sadness, happiness, excitement or when there in pain most people associate whining or crying with there dog beeing sad but alot of dogs actually whine when excited aswell, during play is the most common cause or going for a walk.Crying when alone is due to the fact they are lonely when there pack has gone and cry to try and bring them back.If your dogs could see something you couldn't they would be most likely to bark not cry.Im sure your dogs are fine like i said it's all just natural dog behaviour.

my dogs whine too sometimes. like if my puppy is sitting on his little bed and he makes a little whine all he wants is attention so i tell him he's a poopa head and whine back at him to make him whine more until he gets up and wants to play with his tug of war rope bone lol. but then again sometimes it means they just want to go outside to the bathroom.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tinyurl.im/dlNaq

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

I agree with all the answers except for the mean one. My daughter's cute dog whines when he plays with other dogs. Its hilarious! It's like he's trying to talk. Best wishes!

Could be that or something might be wrong. Watch and see when they do it and see if anything is the same each time. We had a dog that would HOWL every night, except Sunday at 6pm. Turned out, he could hear a fire whistle, 15 miles away and was just responding to it. Trust me, it took a ton of research to figure that one out and even then we figured it out by mistake. We were within range one nite and heard it. When we asked, they told us it went off every night at that time for a test, EXCEPT SUNDAYS!!

Whining means they are anxious about something.

Barking is a warning or a challenge.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.
