in the car there is a 2.5 L V6 JDM engine (not stock), a rebuilt 5 speed transmission (swapped from auto to manual), a cat back exhaust, and an intake. There is a decent radio, a tv screen, i believe 2 12"s in the trunk, and neons underneath the car. the downfall is that the hood and hatch only have primer on them no paint. he is asking $2500. i would be selling my 1994 Toyota Celica ST 1.8L 4 cylinder auto to get the probe.the celica has 133000 miles and due to the engine and transmission swap i don't know the miles on the probe. i have been offered $2700 for my car so i could possibly make $200 by doing this.

overall my question is, is it worth it?

the distributor, distributor cap, rotor , and plugs were all changed when the seller bought the car in July. he also put on racing tires worth over $800.

Ok... let's start here. If you honestly were offered $2700 for your car when it's worth $1500 tops why didn't you take it? Next, I own a 1989 Ford Probe GT 4 cyl Turbo with 186k miles, very very reliable, driven daily. I recently sold a 1993 Probe v6 2.5 liter that had a stock to stock engine swap. The car was very fast and looked better than ANYTHING out there. To back that up, everyone commented on how good the car looked. The down-side is that parts do cost a little bit more than they should for that type of vehicle. Also, the car is very difficult to work on, the engine compartment is full of that v6 engine, with hardly any room to work on anything. I did a clutch on it myself... I never cursed so much in my life. When I had a small accident with a deep pot hole (my car was lowered 2 inches) I settled with my insurance company and sold the 93 probe. Do not buy a car simply based upon looks. If you want to work on for fun or make it a track car then get it. If you simply want an everyday driving transportation then sell your celica for 2700 and get an acura integra 1994 and up. Good luck. P.S. the Ford tech that responded is correct, Ford will likely refuse to work on the car because mechanically it's a mazda and the techs aren't trained to work on it. Also it's not a fun vehicle to work on.

Owned an 89 probe and it ran well over 200k- but it was stock and had PLENTY of little problems (electrical, body, leaks, and that dammed oil filter placement!) I would stay with your toyota and take the advice of the certified FORD tech who answered earlier. A Probe is a Mazda (correct me if I am wrong) and is merely "fair" in quality to begin with- let alone with a motor/tranny mod. Pass on this one.

i have owned several probes before,,and there alright this one sounds like a good deal,,but be care full if the distributor ever gives trouble in it,,you have to replace it with a new one,,899,00 bucks for a new one,,that's the cheapest i could find one,and they usually go out when they get some age on them,i sold a probe gt because of this,,and it was really nice,,but wouldn't start ,because of the distributor,,just be care full,it may be a good deal, hope this help,s.have a good x-mas.

NO!!! Ford quit making the Probe 10 years ago, so parts for it are going to get harder to find and more expensive. And that Toyota, if it's been maintained, is good for another 60 or 70,000 miles.

What you got here is a bunch of anti Ford including Mr Ford and half of Yahoo users are fake

I think you have more to work with trading

The Celica isn't all that neither and your's sounds like your looking at near o/h work so the choice to me
would be the Probe
I had two and ran both over 200k
had to tweak with the turbo at times .... didn't mind it
yes it is a Madza clone and be proud of it when your drift pass them!

Nope, not worth it. Start pricing Probe replacement parts and you will see why. Keep the Toyota.

No. Too much money and all that extra crap will be nothing but a headache. Oh and Probes are junk.
