what is calcium on the hips?

we have a friend who has calcium on his hips.What are the symptoms

our friend had to have surgery on his hip yesterday which was Monday.I've never heard of it either but thats what he said.
It's kinda like a spur I guess ,like you get on the back of a foot.He said

I'm sorry but I've never heard of such a thing. Doesn't even make sense. Look it up on Webmd to be sure. It's like saying a person has vitamin C on their shoulders.
