Assume for a moment that the fairy tale is real. Yes, I know it's not, let's pretend.
Just think for a moment about the sort of people who are up there waiting for you. All the biblethumpers. Xian Fundies. Gay bashers. Misogynists. etc, ad nauseum.
What would you do there? What are you allowed to do if anything fun is a sin? How lonely would it be? Can you knit?
And then think about all the people who are apparently going to helll. All the kickass musicians nd controversial artist types. All the so-called intellectuals, free-thinkers, and scientists. Everyone who's gay. Plenty of women, because they're apparently more sinful then men by nature. 2/3 of the planet or more would be there, actually....
What would you do there? What wouldn't you do there?
Can you just imagine the party?
Personally, I'd rather miss the knitting party up above and hang with all the interesting peoples down below.

You're absolutely welcome to come, Don H. I wouldn't dream of discriminating based on religion, gender, or race. :)

Ronin: Of course it's a ridiculous question. It's a ridiculous concept. We're arguing about a fairy tale, here. Try to keep that in mind.

If you really believed in a "Righteous God" ( I don't follow such a concept, believing that the Creator is a much more vast thing, without such things as emotion or jealousy about which way you choose to worship), then the people you mentioned would not be in heaven, they would be the one's in hell, along with all other evil doers, blasphemers, liars, fornicators, Gay bashers etc. The only people in "Heaven" would be those who walked the straight (nothing to do with sexual orientation) and narrow path towards being decent, wholesome, compassionate and loving Human Beings who put the needs of others ahead of their own and rejected the concept of material wealth over spiritual wealth. That kind of "Heaven" I could believe in, and far as "Hell" goes, that was a concept introduced by the Ancient Persians, who predated the Occidental religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) by some thousands of years. It's basically was a place to cast all the dissenters of your religion into, and smacks of licensed conceit to me.

Given the fact that I am a "non-believer" and I hate biblethumping, sweater knitting gay bashers, I would much rather take up residence in Hell. I figure the weather's definitely warmer down there, the parties are always smokin' and the people are way more fun. I do agree with you that we are more sinful...we just don't get caught sinning as often as men do because you guys aren't as sneaky as we are.
The way I view it now I am in a sort of Hell already. I put up with a b i t c h of a mother in law who sent me a fridge magnet for Xmess to get revenge, an ex who makes my life miserable and I am plagued with bad luck and medical problems. At least once I am dead I would like to think the medical problems will be gone so I can finally kick back and have a few drinks and go crazy with my fellow Hellraisers!!!! I certainly hope my mother in law manages to talk her way up to Heaven so she can leave me the Hell alone!!! Let all of the goody goodies listen to her b i t c h HAHAHA!!!!

Who would not want to go to some cosmic Disneyland instead of the void of non-existence? That is why religion is such a seductive whore, only like the crooked ones, once they have you tied to the bedposts, they take your cash and run out without coming across with the congibles. Religion is the ultimate con, it is government protected, tax free and the product they sell doesn't have to be delivered until you reach a place that doesn't exist. No wonder so many people jump on this manured money wagon.

What I think is the bigger question is why God would want to have all of them up there with him. Casting negative stereotypes aside for a moment, assume all believers actually are kind, moral people who follow all of God's law. In other words, all he'd have around him are a bunch of yes-men. Sure, people tend to get along with peers who are similar to themselves, but we're talking about a superior-subordinate relationship.

well technically in heaven there is no sadness. if there is no sadness, you can't remember your life on earth because life on earth is sad. so technically i wouldn't have to worry about "biblethumpers. Xian Fundies. Gay bashers. Misogynists. etc, ad nauseum."
also given a chance to be in heaven would proove that god is real so i would believe in him. so if i still had a chance to go to heaven, then hell yeah i would take it. wow i didn't make that joke on purpose. talking about heaven and saying hell yeah...

ok....in my oppinion, if an afterlife such as one in heaven or hell does in fact exist, all the gay bashers and other such oppressing assholes certainly won't be in heaven.
sooo, i wouldn't mind going there, because the people there would be the ones who didn't try to control the life choices of people whom they have nothing at all to do with.
so you're right, it'd be one hell of a party up in heaven, cause id be there with all the awesome people i hang out with now and others like them.
not all the assholes i spoke of above, and the ones you say would in fact be there.

Honestly, there's nothing that I can imagine that heaven could provide that would make it worth getting there.
Eternal bliss? What is that like, with nothing to compare it to?
The entire notion is beyond comprehension. Hell, as torture, doesn't really seem like a party place, since the assumption is that there will be constant torture, bamboo under the fingernails, and waterboarding, and electroshock.... Oops. I forgot, that's Guantanamo.

I certainly agree with you. That's also why those clever Bible-writers make hell sound like the average man's worst nightmare times ten. What's the point of great personalities when we're all writhing in pain? That writhing in pain part's pretty effective at keeping "believers" in line... so much so that I get the impression that most of them dread going to hell more than they look forward to going to heaven.

i wouldnt want to go to heaven mainly because the thought of living in paradise for my entire life seems rather boring. i need a little bit of chaos. im ok with being by myself for eternity. but just as you said this is a fairy tale. im also ok knowing when i die i wont go anywhere. i will cease to exist, physically and spiritually

I sometimes think about if I am wrong and there is a god, would I be missing anything? but I've had so many people try to "save my soul" that I've realised that if heaven does exist, I wouldn't want to go there.
