Having your blood drawn generally feels like a pinch. It's over with very quickly. Good luck!

Blood tests really don't hurt, it is more like a small pinch or sometimes a quick bee sting. Some techs are so good at drawing blood that you won't even feel it. It is the mental anxiety before the test that hurts. Just look the other way and think about something else, and it will be over before you know it!!

It depends on the skill of the blood drawer (phlebotomist). With a really skilled one, you won't feel a thing. With a bad one, you will feel a strong prick.

Some suggestions:

1. Let the lab people know this is your first time & you want a head nurse or experienced phlebotomist to help you through it.

2. Drink lots of water. The better hydrated you are, the easier it will be to find your veins.

3. Ask if a butterfly needle would be appropriate. They are finer.

Try to relax. I hate having blood tests too but these following these tips has made it much easier for me. Good luck!

If the nurse is good, you may not even feel it. Just look away so you don't know when it's coming. I've had some nurses at doctor's offices that are so wonderful and have thanked them for it (their expertise) and some in labs where all they do all day is take blood, so I think they've lost the bedside manner and don't care anymore. Those ones hurt.

No. The stuff they use to sterilise the area where they take the blood from also works to numb the area. Giving blood or getting a blood test is less painful than sticking yourself with a pin or getting a papercut.

no more than a regular needle. if you've had immunisation shots before you'll know it's just a tiny pinch. the best idea is to not look at what is going on and before you know it it will be over with. if you feel faint or giddy or you think you might, you can ask them to do it with you lying down.

Depends, I donated blood one time and I have hard to find veins, well they kept missing them and kept like jabbing me with the needle. It hurt.
