I actually just tried this stuff from Arm and Hammer. It's new I think and it's called High Performance. It's in an orange plastic bag and it says all natural on the front of the bag. It looks like saw dust or something and it's very light. Easy to scoop out and clumps very well. It also smells really great. My cats love it.

My cats use a brand called "Feline Pine". It is a natural alternative to clay/clumping cat litter. Feline Pine consists of little pellets of compressed pine sawdust. The pine absorbs urine and the odors it creates naturally. You only have to use a fraction of the amount of clay litter you would use. The only maintenance that is necessary is to clean the poo out of it regularly (I just flush it down the toilet, because parts of the pine litter that may get flushed too inadvertently will not swell and clog pipes the way clay litter will), then change the entire litter about twice a month, when most of the pellets have turned to sawdust again, or it starts to smell a bit, whichever occurs first. Unlike clumping and traditional litter, Feline Pine is 100% biodegradable and much easier to dispose of. You can even use it in composting (aged of course) if you are into such things.
I also use a great product with it, Arm & Hammer cat litter deodorizer, which is a non-toxic powder which comes in a yellow box, available at most stores. You sprinkle it in with the litter and it works wonders for curbing stinky cat box smells!

This may sound funny, but I use wood pellets. The kind they use for pellet stoves. Not only are they inexpensive, but they absorb liquids (actually they break down as they get wet) but they do keep the litter box from smelling like pee. It's real hard for the cat to track the pellets all over. And one of the things I like most about it is that it's biodegradable. Petsmart has a brand of litter made of wood pellets, but I prefer getting pellets at Walmart.(they are cheaper)

I am still looking out for the perfect litter: one that controls odors 100% (I'll settle for 98%); doesn;t track; doesn't get stuck in cat's paws.... and RENEWS itself! Let me know when you find such a product.

Arm and Hammer. It's a little pricey, but it keeps the smell down really well and it's totally worth it.

5 kittens: two females and three males.
The females are calico short-hair and the males all look a little different from each other, but have medium-length hair and long ear-hair, like Maine Coon cats.
