In Ancient Rome they said, "In vino veritas" - "In wine(drink) there is truth".
The Ancient Greeks before them, I believe, had a saying that translated as not believing something told you sober unless confirmed 'under the influence' some other time.
Alcohol loosen inhibitions - but your reponse can vary even from what has been drunk, as well as from how used you are to regular drinking.
I wouldn't "bet my life" on something told me by a drunk - but if it seems to reveal something at odds with how they're behaving when sober, there may be more than a little truth in what they say.
If they let slip something demeaning about how they 'really' feel about a person - or you - watch how they act when sober. Are they actually using the person's feelings for them to get service or sex from them? In that case, admitting while drunk they think the person is 'worthless', 'just a convenient servant' or a 'slut' may really reflect their subconscious view of the person. And so on.
And views relating to sex/sexuality and relationships are very often the ones expressed.

Alcohol does loosen peoples inhibitions. So a person who has had a few drinks may offer up more information on matters that they might consider private than they would when sober, but I wouldn't consider alcohol any kind of a truth serum.
If you want to er on the side of caution, I find it best to not believe anything a person says when drunk, & I usually dismiss most of what a drunk person would say as nonsense.

This is true. This is true because when you are drunk you don't have full control over your brains thoughts and your actions. So you may not realize what you are saying and your conscious may speak. It tends to come out more if you think about a problem you may have over and over, then you become drunk and you are more apt to display your thoughts and views because you lost control of a part of the brain that stops impulses on what you are going to say

Different schools of thought on this. Some say yes, some no. Bottom line is, never rely on information you get from someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is possible it is their true feelings, HOWEVER (and this is a big one), the feelings may be so subconscious, their conscious mind will deny it and who wants that? You need to deal with the sober person, not the drunk.

hard to say, sometimes they may, it depends on the person, but I would not take a rambling of a drunk seriously, sometimes they not only don't know what they said, they wont even remember it in the morning. Bottom line is, when u want honesty it's not with booze that you will get it. The person will have to want to be honest with you on their own and for the right reasons.

not always true. When you drink you are in an altered state of mind....and not in reality. ....often its not far from the truth.
However- some people have allergies to alcohol and are a completely different person. Alcohol messes with the brains natural chemicals. Otherwise why would people see pink elephants ;)

People who are drunk are not in their right mind so whatever they do is a toss up.
They could be telling the truth or they could be lying.
Hanging around with drunks can make you unnecessarily nuts.

Alcohol is not truth serum! The alcohol may "loosen" the tongue, but it also "loosens" the brain cells. I've said a few rotten things when I had been drinking- may not remember what I said, but do remember that I meant to hurt someone's feelings!

I feel people are honest more when not drunk.
People seem to be bolder & many say hurtful things while they are drunk. Anything a person tells you can't hold up.

Not really, although they may say things that are on their mind that they wouldn't have the guts to sober...they will also lie or say things to get what they want, without thought of recourse...after all, the next day they'll just blame it on the alcohol...
