In one recent clinical trial among surgery patients, it proved more effective than the prescription drug Reglan in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting. It has been shown to stimulate the intestines and promote production of saliva, digestive juices, and bile. It also tends to boost the pumping action of the heart, prevent the formation of clots, reduce cholesterol levels, and fight inflammation. It may even have a stimulative effect on the immune system.

Avoid If...
Although there's no evidence that Ginger is harmful during pregnancy, officials recommend that it not be taken for morning sickness. People with gallstones should not use it unless their doctor approves. Because of its anti-clotting properties, it should be avoided by anyone in danger of internal bleeding.

Special Cautions
High doses (6 grams or more) may damage the stomach lining and could eventually lead to ulcers. Allergic skin reactions are also possible, but in recommended doses, Ginger causes no side effects.

Possible Drug Interactions
It's best to avoid large doses of Ginger if you are taking a blood-thinning drug such as Coumadin.

From my own personal experience I have found that a ginger root bath can help with water weight. It will help you to lose water weight that is.
All you do is take a piece about 6 inches long and grate it up with a cheese grater. Then you boil it in water for about an hour. After you do this, you will strain out the ginger from the water and pour the water into your bath. get into the bath and soak in it for about 45 minutes. When you get out, rinse off and cover up with a towel and blanket. This is cause you to sweat but that's what you want to do. Stay wrapped up for about an hour and when you're done just rinse off again in the shower or you can just fall asleep on the couch or so with the blanket still on but make sure that you don't get too hot while you are sleeping.

I've lost 5 lbs over night like this.
