Scenerio: A good friend of mine just got engaged. I was just informed that for my friend's engagement ring, her fiance is borrowing his mom's engagement ring. My friend will have to give the ring back to her mother-in-law after the wedding.

Um, am I the only person that thinks this is super weird? Like, you can buy a $50 ring at Wal Mart or something....what would you do/say in this situation? Would you still marry a guy who gave you his mom's engagement ring, then told you to give it back after the wedding?

FYI, the guy DOES have a job..

I would marry him, its not the engagment ring thats so important to get engaged, but it is a really big symbol. I love mine. I would say he needs to at least get her a new one after the wedding and she gives his moms back-worst case senario! I really think that he ought to just get her one now. He obviously gets that its important since hes goin through the trouble of gettin his moms, so he should get that its important for her to have her own ring.

Yeah I think its super weird. and I dont know. Yes the ring is a symbol but it really does matter. And it's a symbol of something more than just a temporary, you have to give it back immediately. I frequently said that if a guy proposes and doesnt give you a ring, he did not propose. You merely discussed some options. So I'd have to say that proposing with a ring that I can't actually keep, wouldn't classify as a proposal. So yeah I don't think he is ready to get married if he can't make the committment to buy a ring.

(Now on the other hand if he was merely using his mom's ring b/c he wanted to surprise her and they are going to pick out her ring TOGETHER so that he can get her something she'll really love--thats completely different)

Hmm... that's slightly odd. There must be a reason for it. Maybe he's still trying to save up more money to get the ring he wants her to have and he'll have it for her at the ceremony?

My friends just recently got engaged as well, and he didn't have money to buy her a ring. His mother gave him her engagement ring to pass along. Their thinking of starting this as a new tradition when they have children.

Please give me your friends name and number...if she still loves the guy and wants to marry him after something that tacky (not to mention going along with it), you, I and every other woman on the planet MUST set up an intervention and rescue her.......immediately! It's our duty.
