The trees we cut are not always large. The cedar trees are large in number but not in size. I am looking for a better answer than just burning them. Can they be used for paper or veneer products, or should they be used for shavings and chips ?

They are more profitable left standing,
most animals are quite capable of grazing under trees if they are not too dense, and for many this is the best habitat, eg pigs. much high quality of meat, less outlay on food stock etc.
especially if you manage the wood - coppice, fruit/nut bushes etc.

Could be chipped and turned into bio-gas. mixed scrub does not provide good fuel pellets, chipboard, paper or veneer, not worthwhile transporting.

smaller trees are usually used for wood chips.
I have witnessed people packaging and selling the chips for cooking/smoking meats.

wild cherry and locust are some real nice ones if they have any size.
you'll have to do a serach on specific trees to fidn their value.
all trees are worth more than burning them.

where are you located ever run into any alder?
