I am a cub scout leader, and it seems that for many club scout parents, sewing is a lost art. Many actually seem frightened of it.

So if you were a parent who didn't want to sew patches on a shirt, how much would you pay someone else (like me) to do it for you?

Laura123 - that is a great idea, except I actually am not a great seamstress. I am just good enough to get the job done.

I hope sometime we'll be able to do some sort of sewing activity, but for the time being, we have a bunch of six-year-olds who need the essentials (troop #, etc) sewn on their shirts.

Well, my son needed patches on the knees of his gi for aikido and the lady charged $22 but that included the material. I think if it was me I'd give a set price per patch depending upon how long it would take you and based upon a reasonable hourly rate. My first thought was $5 per patch.

I'd pay about a buck for one, and five for three to four patches. I have sewed patches before and it takes about a minute per patch.

Teach the boys how to sew. Or perhaps have a "parent-son workshop" and show them how to do it by hand.
