that's where you are numbed from the chest down. that's what you get when you have a c-section.

canal your in the medical section I'm assuming you mean the medical use not the movie. A spinal tap is a large needle placed into the spinal canal to extract fluid to test for various disease processes ie. meningitis.

A doctor takes a needle and inserts it into the spine to draw out spinal fluid. They hurt like heck.
