do an underwater one, or a volcano, or mountains. That would be a great 3 dimensional projects.
You are very welcome. Both of my daughters have done them. One did a zoo scene and the other an indian village. I figured any type of outdoor scene would be good. Hey how about a snow scene fo the winter. Use cotton balls. You can even buy them colored, pretty cheap too. Then get the tinly little Christmas tree ornaments after the holidays so they are on clearance. Hopefully the project isnt due until after vacation.
And if you have to handmake the object and not buy them Sculpey clay is the best.

Good luck.

First I would start looking for little objects (toys, animals, bugs etc). Look into your child's toy chest or niece, little bro, or a cousin. Then look in the kitchen for things that can make a good
diorama or any shoe box. After figure out what you're going to be doing think about your theme and the things that you'll need later.
These are a few examples what you can do:
A Diorama is a picture in three dimensions.
1) Stable (a thimble oat bucket for water, a toy horse with a string for a britle, some hey, some sticks, shoe box decotaded with some outdoorsy place from a magazine or look in the mail!)
2) Jungle (magazine cut out glue to twigs, toy gorilla etc, leaves)
3) Ocean (small sea shells, fish toys, some sand, a mini light house) example of box: sardine can
4) Ski Slopes (ham can, styrofoam, bump chenille stems, white glue, borax, white paint, figurines, plastic wrap, white rubber band) perfect for the holidays!.

if you need more you may find more ideas from Martha Steward magazine and/or parents magazine.

a cool idea for a diorama would be to recreate your favorite place, and all the things that make it your favorite place.
