Before you get shipped off for boot camp do they tell you aproximately when you'll be done with AIT? I'm tyring to plan a wedding for the leave following my fiance's AIT. Assuming he isn't held back, would he have any idea when he'd be coming home?

It really will depend on what MOS he is and how long it will take. Once he starts AIT he should be able to give you the best answer, until it actually starts though you just never know, he might have a "fill" or "zero" week that doesn't count toward the time in school but will keep him away from home.

I can tell you now, if you're planning on marrying into the Army, don't plan on much.

As soon as he gets to AIT, they'll give him all his dates for graduation and such. Not everyone gets leave upon graduation from AIT. In alot of cases, you're sent to your 1st permanent duty station, where you can submit your leave. The length of his AIT will depend on the MOS he chose. BCT will be 9 weeks with AIT directly following. AIT can be 4 weeks to months, again depending on the MOS he chose.

Don't count on him coming home. Sometimes, it just doesn't happen. He might have to report right away. Our plans fell through and I married him at AIT and he was put strait on a plane to Germany. We've heard many other stories with the same thing.

Good luck and be ready to be flexible and expect the unexpected!!

Basic is generally 8 weeks, not including reception days when you first get there, so plan on 9 - 91/2 weeks. Depending where he does AIT, it could be a week, it could be a weekend. I did Basic at Ft. Jackson in '83 and I had a week between it and AIT in Ft. Gordon. However I was with guys that had Basic and AIT at Jackson, so they only had a few days. Once he gets there he'll know for sure.

Tell him this for me - it's just a head game - PLAY IT.

Yes he should know his scheduled graduation date and depending on his MOS he could get a weekend off or a week off before being shipped to his duty center.

In the military, schedules can change according to the needs of the military, so nothing is written in stone.
