I am a volunteer ,my client thanked me by giving me a gift( not to much,it value about $10), I received it because the client insisted and I wouldn't hurt his feeling, but now I feel that I must return it (for good reputation), how can I do? teach me please. thanks

Do not return it. If you cannot in good conscience keep it, then donate it in the client's name to an appropriate charity. Any church will write a receipt for any donation. If, in the future, you are worried about being called on the carpet about accepting the gift, you will have a receipt to show you donated to charity, and the client knows nothing about it.

I really don't think you need to return the gift, unless you have broken some kind of policy. But if you must, the next time you see the client, you can say something like, "I really appreciate this gift, but I'm just not comfortable keeping it. Thank you so much for you kindness."

Is there a policy about not receiving gifts? In a lot of service industries, staff are not allowed to receive gifts over a certain denomination. You could simply return the gift with a smiple thank you, saying thank you but as a volunteer you're not allowed to accept gifts. Or you could re-gift it and donate it to the place where you volunteer or some other charity, and explain that in your note as well.

No. You should not return it. If you had to not accept it, the moment would have been at that time. You have accepted it now; so say thank you, and do not bring it up again.
Reputation depends upon being kind to people. Just let this go now. Your rep does not depend upon hurting someone over a $10.00 gift.

If you don't want to hurt their feelings, don't return it. Give it to someone else. There must be a charity box for gift donations somewhere!

No you don't need to do that. I would get really offended if I took the time and energy to get someone a gift and they ended up returning it to me! I think that would ruin your reputation more!
