OK. I got a new PC (the old one crashed and I lost my iTunes library). I downloaded iTunes to the new computer.

Now, when I plug in my iPod, I get the message it cannot sync with the new library (since the existing library on the iPod was created on the old computer, yeah?).

H-E-L-L-L-L-P!!!

How can I preserve the library on my iPod and get the new library on the new computer to work with it???

Well, I've since discovered that David is right: I have to pull the library off the iPod to another location. I have been pointed to the downloadable software called COPYPOD for this purpose. I am going to assume that this will work.

But David has put his finger on the crux of the problem: HOW DO I RE-SYNC??? (once I have the new library on the new computer repopulated...)

I know someone has this answer.

When you plug in the iPod go to the iPod preferences and select "Manually Manage" Songs [and Videos]*
Then, You should be able to drag the songs from the new library to the ipod and it should work,

hope i helped

What a pain. The goal is to use a utility to pull the tunes off your ipod and then move them back in to iTunes, THEN resync. Look at this link.
