Yes they do, when used as prescribed by a doctor. The newer ones work on a chemical called serotonin, that occurs naturally in the body. As the chemical flows around, any excess gets recycled.
The way that the pills work is to slow down the recycling process, allowing the serotonin aka 'Feel Good Chemical' to hang around longer.
It takes a little while for a new prescription to build up in the body and start to work. Once it's working, it's important to keep taking the drug as prescribed until the doc tells you otherwise. If you want to stop taking it, don't quit cold turkey. It has to be tapered slowly.

If you skip a dose take it as soon as you remember unless it is too close to your next dose. Don't take a double dose. Missing one day isn't usually a big deal as long as you don't do it alot. You want the levels of medication to remain constant on your system.

Hi, yes they work. Some people don't give them enough time and give up on taking them. It takes up to 3 weeks for many to start getting better on the medicine. Please takes your meds and don't give up. If not better in 3 weeks insist on seeing doctor again. Best wishes!

Yeah it does, but once you got a hang of it for far too long, then your depression is getting deeper. even the pills can't help you.

Depending on the type and the effect. It could either make you normal, or incredibly depressed and suicidal.

Anti-depressant pills do, in fact, work for alleviating depression. That is why so many people take them for ... depression.
