Isn't that the word for the parent?

"Papi" is just one of the terms of affection that I use for my 1 year old son, along with "baby" and such...

...to answer your question, I use it the same way you'd call a 2 year old "big guy", or the fat guy they call "slim". I find it cute because it's contrary.

Plus, it helps him to hear it so it will become embedded in his vocabulary sooner, so he can use it appropiately to name me.

It goes beyond that I call my little chiuahua dog mami.

Yes, it is. Its weird Ive never heard it before, they always call them "mija" or "mijo". It makes me laugh

It's actually hija for daughter or hijo for son.
