Some of the main causes of Primary Hypertension can be a diet high in sodium, saturated fat, and/or cholesterol. Diets low in potassium, calcium, and magnesium are contributing factors. Other contributing facts are smoking, obesity, stress, heredity, and age.
Treatment consists of changes in diet, weight loss, exercise, stress management, smoking cessation and/or antihypertensive drugs (such as diuretics, beta or alpha blockers, calcium-channel blockers)
Some causes of Secondary Hypertension can be excess renin secretion, arterisclerosis, hyperthyroidism, or Cushing's disease. Treatment of secondary hypertension is directed toward correcting the listed causes (such as treating Cushing's disease).
Hope it helps.
