My 1996 Ford Tbird developed a cracked input manifold. Why?IT WAS MADE OUT OF NYLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Nylon can not tolerate the heat ranges that input manifolds are subjected to.Ford so called engineers didn't know this?Of course they did. They were overuled by the managment who think they are Gods.Wow,we saved 25 cents on each manifold, multiply that by 300k.Now we are talking real $.How many millions did it cost Ford for the recall?Ford had to redesign the manifold using aluminum which should have been the first choice. Now you know why Honda,Toyota, etc. are taking over the auto industry. And God bless them. When we get rid of junk builders like Ford,we all benefit.Ford,do all of us a favor and go out of business. You still have not learned the lesson.A GREAT GRANDSON DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE A WISE LEADER !!!!!! I predict that Ford and Chrysler will be out of the car building business in the near future.GM will be the only American car manufacturer. Thanks be to God.

i could have changed your nylon input manifold in the time it took you type out all that. bottom line is modern cars are made to throw away. it's cheaper to pay a korean 2$/hour to make a new one, than pay a mechanic/garage 50$/hour to fix it. so a car's made to run perfectly for 3-4 years that someone leases it, and then be a good used car for another 4-5 years, and then it's garbage it's the same for everything. go look in the dumpster behind the stereo store. there will be DVD players in there people brought back because the remote was missing or a button doesn't work. it doesn't get fixed it goes in the garbage because it's easier to replace with a new one than pay someone 20-30 bucks an hour to fix it. if you want a good car, stick with a brand you know so you can do your own maintenance, and find a used intake manifold at the scrap and put that on there. long as you're doing that you can also change the plugs, clean the injectors/replace the o rings, change fuel pressure regulator, gaskets, thermostat, clean throttle body and IAC, test/replace vacuum and coolant lines... do all that at the same time shouldn't take you more than a day to a weekend and your motor's good for another 100,000 miles.

Your 96 T-Bird is 11 years old and things tend to go wrong after that time; GM cars break down a lot quicker... look at the stats. Don't make to big a bet on Ford going out of business, or you'll be a poor man.

Let's see (you could look this up if there are doubts in your uninformed mind), Ford F-150 is best seller 41 years running, Focus in top ten since it came to North America in 2000, Explorer and Escape top selling SUVs, Fusion at the top of the list in it's first year, Mustang best selling sports car (GM will take 5 years to bring out a competitor).

The saving $.25 is something they all do... that's the cost of business. Honda did it a few years back on their rear-stabilizer, Dodge did it on their latches for their Minivans, GM saved millions on their car-line staying a few extra years with old technology.

I love these kind of stupid questions, it just goes to show the ignorance of some people. There is not 1 auto company that makes a flawless vehicle. NOBODY OR FOR THAT MATTER NOTHING ON THIS EARTH IS PERFECT!!!!!!!!. ALL the car companies have recalls and they all have problems. I happen to feel that Ford makes great vehicles. I have friends that work @ GM dealers, Chrysler dealers, and Jap dealers and they all say the same thing! Its all about personal preference, because you had a problem with a Ford does not mean they make a bad product!

so you thing ford makes lousy cars? i have own 3 fords, all of which are still running. including my 1995 ford explorer with 230,000 miles on it, now the next question, have you ever driven/owned a chevy or dodge. next problem, your complaining that the intake manifold was made of nylon? why dont u look under the hood of any chevy or dodge. the intake manifold is not subjected to any heat at all, the point of the intake manifold is to bring COLD dense air in for the engine to breathe. and next, toyota anf honda and s*** like that is taking over only because they make cars cheaply, sure they run forever, but there is nothing to them. the cars are tacky and small, lastly GM is going downhill MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than ford. if any ameican company goes out of business, it will be GM I LOVE FORD and i HATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU

There is just one thing that bothers me about what was said.

To quote: "I predict that Ford and Chrysler will be out of the car building business in the near future.GM will be the only American car manufacturer. Thanks be to God."

The thing that 95% of America doesn't realize about domestic cars, is that the parent company (Ford, DCX, GM) doesn't actually 'make' the car, they just assemble it. Most of the components are made from suppliers. Those suppliers 99% of the time cater to all motor companies. For example, in my 2001 Ford Escape, the fuel tank was created by Visteon, alternator by Denso, and seat belts by TRW (just to name a few components) And in fact, on the 1996 Thunderbird, the intake manifold was created by the Automotive Components Group Division of Ford which is now known as Visteon. Not Ford.

I probably sound somewhat bias, since I work in a Ford facility (not as a Ford employee though) but as I said before, even though our company (ACH) primarily does work for Ford, we also do it for DCX, GM, Renault, Hyundai, Toyota, and BMW.

So next time, don't blame Ford. Do your research and find out the actual company that made the component :)

First of all your an idiot for thinking that buying Japanese cars is going to hurt this economy. It's not you dipshits. Toyota and Honda employ hard working Americans. Not Japanese. Second of all American companies make pieces of crap. They try and cut corners and look what happens. Few American cars make it over 100000 miles and on top of that they just guzzle gas. Foreign cars on the other hand last 2 to 3 times longer, get better gas mileage, and cost less to maintain. So take that and shove it up your *** you ignorant dumbasses.

Ford is not the only car company to use nylon intakes. Others have used or tested their own including GM. The way I see it, the question should be "Why do people buy cars for looks and not ask the important questions?" In Ford's defense, one bad apple does not spoil the bunch

Every vehicle has dealerships and service departments and techs that work in the service dept. EVERY VEHICLE has recalls and problems 90% of the time the problems are lack of maintenance by the vehicle owner. I have a 2000 windstar & a 2000 f-250 both with over 150000 miles on them and not one problem. The JAP cars are just as guilty with problems and recalls. Oh yeah and when you buy a JAP vehicle the profits do not stay in this country. Buy AMERICAN IT KEEPS AMERICANS WORKING

geezzzzzz, ford stood behind their car....do you think the foreign companies will? Doubt it! I think you should be glad Ford is such a great company. I sell cars, and i have 2 03" general motor cars with less than 36000 miles on them, they have blown head gaskets. And guess what, they are timed out on their warrantys and gm is not going to stand behind them. My hubby who was a chevy mechanic for 8 years says they've had that problem forever.
