Take your CD/MP3 player loaded with some fave tunes that calm you. Be sure you can play 'em loud enough to drown out things you don't want to hear.

Ask for novocaine (which I'm sure they'll give to you) and you won't feel a thing.

The needle that they use to inject the numbing medication only stings for a split second (it stings...it's not painful at all) and due to the location of the injection site, that entire quadrant will be numb quickly and for a long time. Also, the nerve structure in your gums will keep the needle from causing too much discomfort as well.

The most you should worry about is the drooling you'll do after you get the novocaine until it wears off.

Word of advice: DRINK WITH A STRAW UNTIL IT WEARS OFF!!

:)

...And don't be scared. It's not going to hurt. If you ever have to get a second one done, you won't have any of the fear you have now because you'll know then that it's nothing to fret over.

dont worry its not that bad at all. take it from the girl you cried while getting my finger pricked for blood.
ive had six cavities filled, four when i was around 11 also.
first, theyll give you a shot. thats the worst part, actually. it only lasts for like three seconds and the pains not that bad. just think of something pleasant. your face will feel like its swollen, and your lips and tongue will be numb. you wont feel a thing.
the rest is painless.
try biting down on your tongue after you get your shot. its the weirdest feeling ever.

I just had 3 replaced. I always got gas until was an adult. I agree with taking some soothing tunes. Really is not that bad.

Do some deep breathing exercises in the waiting room, then breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly when in the dentist chair. It keeps the jitters down to a minimum.

its funny i saw this question on here becuase i just had one done today. it really doesnt hurt at all they give you shots that numbs your mouth that kinda hurts, not much though. then they drill the holes in your tooth and you cant feel anything beause you are so numb. today when i was done i could barely blink on the left side of my mouth, lol, it was so numb. but overall its not that bad. good luck!

try not to think about it while it happens, and if you don't hear what's happening, it's usually less frightening. bring along your mp3 player :)

but filling cavities usually don't hurt, so you don't have to worry much about that.
