I agree, in '94, I bought a '93 Ford Tempo, it was new, just never sold (should have been my first clue) While I never really had any major trouble with it, I decided I wanted a Honda (which I'd always had before) I went to a Ford dealer, just to get an idea of trade-in value and they LAUGHED at me, in one year I also owed more than the car was worth. My dad had always bought Ford trucks, which I think are better quality than the cars.
My Honda, is 12 years old now. Have never done more than routine maintenance, it has 165,000 miles and is still going strong.
AND I get aggravated when people say "buy American" , Toyotas and Hondas are made in America now. The Ford plant where I live, won't let the employees park in the main lot if they drive anything other than Ford. Won't even let visitors park a non-Ford in the main lot. Of course, the plant is on the verge of shutting down now too.

i could have changed your nylon input manifold in the time it took you type out all that.
bottom line is modern cars are made to throw away. it's cheaper to pay a korean 2$/hour to make a new one, than pay a mechanic/garage 50$/hour to fix it. so a car's made to run perfectly for 3-4 years that someone leases it, and then be a good used car for another 4-5 years, and then it's garbage
it's the same for everything. go look in the dumpster behind the stereo store. there will be DVD players in there people brought back because the remote was missing or a button doesn't work. it doesn't get fixed it goes in the garbage because it's easier to replace with a new one than pay someone 20-30 bucks an hour to fix it.
if you want a good car, stick with a brand you know so you can do your own maintenance, and find a used intake manifold at the scrap and put that on there. long as you're doing that you can also change the plugs, clean the injectors/replace the o rings, change fuel pressure regulator, gaskets, thermostat, clean throttle body and IAC, test/replace vacuum and coolant lines... do all that at the same time shouldn't take you more than a day to a weekend and your motor's good for another 100,000 miles.

All of the manufacturers, including GM, Chrysler and the imports use engine parts made out of nylon and plastic. This has been going on for years. Lighter, cheaper, and recycleable. The recall was put out for the general public on the 4.6 liters in 2002, but the police vehicles had the intakes replaced in the 90's, actually if I remember correctly, a replacement intake was available with a metal crossover in 96, when your T-bird was new. Not all of them cracked. It was a weak point, but all vehicles have their design flaws, no matter what company made them.

Ford is not the only car company to use nylon intakes. Others have used or tested their own including GM. The way I see it, the question should be "Why do people buy cars for looks and not ask the important questions?" In Ford's defense, one bad apple does not spoil the bunch

thats because ford got real cheap in the mid and late 90,s but there doing better now because they learned there lesson. You make junk cars you loose your customers. Ford is allot better now then it was then you learn from your mistakes and they took a big lost in sales so they learned.

Sorry to tell you...but your wrong. A recent study was published that shows that over the last few years, the gap in reliablity and quality of Japanese cars and American cars is closing.

Dude you need to relax. Every car maker has their problems just like every person has problems. It's not that big of a deal, take a deep breath and rethink things. You may even want to consider therapy!

Vehicles made today are called "Throwaways" They're not made to last an owner any longer.
Major engine parts are made of plastic that warps or breaks.
GM is making junk nowdays also... and I'm a Chevy man.....
