First you need to see a professional dermatologist to stop new acne outbreaks. Over the counter products such as Proactiv are really only effective if you have mild acne. As you are scarring, you are much too advanced to be treated at the drug store. You may need antibiotics, retinols, or laser treatments to stop the cycle.
Now, we can talk about the scarring.
The good news is, all by itself, all but the very deep "ice pick" acne scars will improve on their own once the acne is cured and the uneven skin tone will become more even. To accelerate the process you can begin a dermatologist performed series of microdermabrasion or glycolic acid peels. A series can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to almost a grand depending on the depth of your scars.
For ice pick scars, the only real solution is an injectable filler such as Restalyn. An injection of Restalyn will plump up the scar from 3 to 6 months and you will need another injection at that point. Restalyn will cost a few hundred dollars each time to treat a minimal amount of acne scars.

Severe acne scars can be bad. There really is little treatment. You could do some extreme things like getting laser or cosmetic surgery but this usually isnt an option because of financial circumstances. However, if you're younger typically in your teens then you could pretty much do nothing at all. Acne scars will naturally fade alot or go away alltogether as you get older.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Proactive does not remove scars.
To remove scars you have to see a dermatologist and they have to do chemical peels, dermabrasion and/or laser treatments

There are many cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made face packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems. More remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html

Accutane. Its a pill you take. I had to take two cycles of it but it worked for me. As far as scars go you might have to do laser skin treatments.

Rubbing alcohol. It burns though...also dries out your skin, so use lotion afterwards...and be careful around your eyes. I used it when i was a teen...and it worked
