I still don't get that, was it because of the earthquake or God wanted it to tear apart?

Unusual but great question. God wanted it to tear apart. Before Jesus died, the curtain in the temple separated the people from the holy of holies where only the mediating priest could enter into with petitions. God was showing that now is no longer the case. That we as individuals can enter the holy of holies directly as Jesus has paid the final price for the sins of those who repent and trust in Him. We don't need a human mediator as Jesus is now our Mediator in heaven. I hope I explained that clear enough. Wonderful truth.

God wanted it to tear apart. That let everyone know that there was not a seperation between God and man anymore. Jesus , the Man, had entered into the Holy of Holys to become our high priest for all time. It is interesting to me that the veil in the Temple ripped apart much the same as a womans hymen is torn on the wedding night and life is able to start. This is one reason why abortion is such a sin and why sex before marriage is so bad. We are given a chance to take part in creation. We must not mess it up

The temple is an architectural style of the a at the same time as appointed with the help of God. The veil of the temple separates the Holy position from the Holy of Holies. The Holy position is adorned with products which correspond with our cutting-edge age, the "church age". The 7 branched candlestick, the 12 leavened loaves of shewbread, the golden altar and, for sure, the veil. The tearing of the veil symbolizes the activities brought about with the help of the 7 pronouncements of the "strong angel" on the right of this age at the same time as the way is made sparkling for gentile believers to enter into the fourth and very last age appointed to this earth.

And remeber that it says that the curtain was split from top to bottom. Why? Because the symbolism of the access to God has been given to any who come. The Christ had died for the sins of the World. Access to God is now opened and ripped because it never will be pulled back. A high priest was the only one who could go into the Holy of Holies, the curtain separated other men from God, the proper sacrifice was necessary for the high priest to enter without being killed. Now the curtain was torn open, and the access to God is granted to whosoever wills.

The physical cause was the earthquake, which cracked the capstone that was holding up the veil that covered the entrance to the holy of holies, tearing the "curtain" from top to bottom.

The direct cause was the permanent departure of the Holy Spirit from the Jewish Temple.

Symbolically, the veil of the Temple was torn at the very same moment the spear was thrust into Jesus' side, and at the very same moment the last Passover lamb had been slaughtered.

Jesus was the "What I have written, I have written" name of the Two Thieves who were crucified after Christ was set FREEEEE in the Gospels.

The curtain of the Temple thing was written to describe the end of the line for the Biblical Jews who suddenly discovered that they were in breach of the Sabbath with the two thieves left hanging on their crosses by Pontius Pilate after the Sun had set, heralding the start of the Sabbath.

The Jews then found themselves all candidates for crucifixion by thier own Law, and worse, they had defiled the land of the promise and lost The Promised Land, and even with Nuclear Bombs in their possession today they cannot reclaim this Land that their God has taken away from them, and the UN and USA are embarassed in their efforts to defy the Only True God.

God split the curtain, and it is symbolic because the curtain seperated the holy of holies, it showed that everyone can enter God's presence, and everyone is allowed salvation.

I know this is not the biblical answer, but after Jesus died, there was no reason for Temples anymore, we became the temple of God.

First think about what was behind that curtain. In the holy of holies laid the ark of the covenant which contained the tablets of Moses. I think it was meant to be a symbol that the law of Moses had been fulfilled.

The veil separated the Temple holy of holies from the court. It was split to show that Jesus' death allowed us entrance into the "holy of holies" of God's forgiveness.
