If your hen is sitting on the egg and tending to it, leave it alone. Do not remove it until she gives up on it, or abandons it. Taking the egg(s) too early will cause her to lay continuously, risking her health for the sake of her "family" of eggs. Once you notice she's given up on it (she comes out of her nest more often, starts to sing again, playing around etc) then you may remove the nestbox/eggs. Continuous batches of eggs will deplete her calcium/nutrient supply and she may become ill. We only allow our breeder birds 2 batches (clutches) of eggs/babies per year.

You have 2 options.
One- Leave the egg in there until it passes its hatch day and then remove. This way your bird will know it was infertile and was not going to hatch even though it was there long enough.
Two- Take it out right away to get her back in the laying mode.

Many pet stores have artificial eggs the same size and texture as the real thing, I may be a good idea to look for some and replace the "real" egg with the artificial one then leave her alone. The egg she laid, if it is not fertile, will begin to rot and get bacteria on it, this could make your love bird sick.
