The Old Testament is like a history book, so "yes", I believe those are true stories. Some of the stories in the New Testament are actually parables that Jesus told though, which would be examples that Jesus used to teach people but not necessarily things that actually happened. So there are both.

Jesus taught by Parables. Someone has explained that a Parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. The parables usually were things that might have happened ... people got robbed on the road to Jericho, etc., etc. Or a man went to a far country to receive a kingdom ... well, isn't that how the Herods got their kingdoms (from Rome)? It seems parables never NAMED individuals.
Jesus also told of events that had happened; such as the rich man and Lazarus the beggar, or "as Jonah was ....", etc.
So, both kinds of teachings. And other kinds too. Be wise to discern the various kinds. Some are actual events; others are earthly stories with heavenly meanings.

The Bible is not a book of stories, it is a book of history! People who don't believe in God have been trying for years to sale their tall tell the the Bible is just a story book but over the years they have uncovered lost cities, long forgotten and the only record of them is in the Bible. Some people don't want to believe in God, they don't want to think that there is something out there bigger than them that they may have to answer to. The Bible even tells us that man loves to have him ears tickled, which means that man wants to believe the things that make him comfortable with what he is doing. Read the Bible, believe what it says. There's an old saying that goes, 'you got to believe in something or you'll fall for anything.' And before you read the Bible, pray first to God to open up you eyes and mind so that you can understand what you are reading.

Yes I do believe the stories in the bible are true. And if your teacher is putting down your religion by saying the bible isn't true, I would go tell the school principle because she really not supposed too be doing that.

Well I believe as a christian that all of it did happen, but the stories she may have been talking about are the parables that Jesus told, a parable is just a story told to make a point, but as far as the actual events like the flood, creation, moses and things like that all actually happened.

You must see the bible as a library (that's what it means in Latin or something) well it has different books of different genre, there are the historic one (like genesis, chronicles, acts...) And there are the ones that are used like examples but those things are not real exactly as the bible says it i.e. Apocalypses, in real life there won't be four horses trowing fire it is just to explain somethings, so you have to see what kind of book you are reading from the bible.

Your teacher was probably referring to the parables that Jesus told. A parable is a brief narrative story told with earthly analogies to illustrate a spiritual truth. Jesus used these stories as teaching tools. These stories were not meant to mislead anyone but to teach good morals.
Other than these parables, the whole Bible is true. It is God's inspired word.

The Bible is not like a newspaper. It has facts, but they are stated in a different way, to get to the heart of each person. The stories are true, and help us to see how people are, and how God puts up with us, and tries to give us the best, and we don't always accept it.

The stories are claims, this is a good example, God gave the Israelites a nation now if the majority of the people believe that God did that, then it will be accepted, so apply that to other claims

I believe that the Bible is true, that the events recorded really happened, and I think most Christians would agree.
