His mother is going out of state with her boyfriend for Christmas. He is not allowed to celebrate Christmas. Normally he lasts about 44 hours before he starts asking to go home. This weekend he will be here from 4pm Thursday until 6pm Tuesday. He does not color, watch tv, or do anything else that requires him to be still more than 15 seconds. What can I do that is fun to keep him from crying to go home for 4 days straight?

Keep in mind I also have a 5yo, 4yo, and 8month-old of my own- with the baby I cannot be in the middle of football games and things- and that it cannot be expensive. We do not all fit in the vehicle at once so taking them anywhere is also out of the question.

HELP PLEASE!!!

Clearly some people missed a few facts:
#1 He does not sit still- no videos, definitely.
#2 He does not eat. Well, except grits....I had best buy about 10 boxes of those.
#3. No money- means no video games, no new toys.

I am not sure if I mentioned all these originally- if not, here they are now.

Lots of playdough and paint. I have never met a five year old who did not like to make a mess. If that doesn't work all I can say then is.... Good Luck.

Are you sure you can't get him to draw a little bit? My friends kid is the most hyper 4 year old I ever met. A little monster. In moderate amounts I could get him to draw but requires "one on one time", driven by him.

Only way to entertain is kind of to get him to entertain himself without hopefully wrecking your house. Ideally, since you have a 5 year old too, a "sport" activity they can both enjoy. Soccer is great if you have a ball that won't damage house. Getting them to race each other or play tag might work? Or chase each other around? Your 5 year may be the key; hopefully fighting not issue of course.

he's too young for video games I think but that is possibility too for some kids that age? Very simple games.

Playing race worked on my nephew. He had some hyper tendancies.

Bake cookies, give him a couple of magazines, stickers, scissors and a glue stick and tell him to make you a collage. Playdough can be messy but will keep him entertained. I know you said he won't watch tv, what about a movie? My 5 year old loves the leapfrog dvds. Have him clean out your tupperware cabinet. Give him a spray bottle full of water and a rag and ask him to wash the windows. Puzzles are also great.

God love you, you must have the patience of Job!!!!!!! If it isnt too cold let him go outside with your older kids and run and play. Let him work off some of that energy. How about some play dough or crafts? If all else fails try the ole helping you clean. Give him some small chores to do. You must be one heck of a woman, thats all I can say and I do hope your friend really appreciates you.

A cooking project like baking cookies would be fun. I have a 9 yr old nephew who gets bored really easily. Getting him involved in cooking something he likes to eat takes his mind off of missing Mommy. Let the kids be in charge of adding ingredients and forming the cookies.
