My Dad served on the bridge of an aircraft carrier way off the coast of Vietnam. Most of his life he was seditary and ate junk food. So when he got a heart attack, he got a doctor to say it was Agent Orange. Now he is receiving VA benefits. I don't think this is right. But if I do anything, it could tear the family apart.
What should I do?

It is true that not just ground troops were in contact with agent orange...however call the V.A. and tell them you suspect there is fraud. If they decide to pursue the issue make sure they do so under the guise of "reviewing his case" and not because someone reported him.

And by the way....I am a vet but I don't believe in anyone milking the system if they don't truly need and deserve the benefits.

Your heart is in the right place, you are just a little bit misguided...

Some of the answers here are very harsh, because you have touched on a very emotional issue (war veterans etc.)

You are NOT an 'a**h*l*' or bad for feeling this way.

Perhaps you've learnt about your father's "deceit" and you are upset and shocked by it and probably disappointed too. This is normal.

You're also feeling that you 'want to do the right thing' and stop the fraud. This is normal (and good) too.

Unfortunately, you will learn in life, everything is not simply RIGHT and WRONG.

Sometimes things that are wrong should be left alone, because if you 'fix' it, you will cause even MORE wrong... or damage a lot of things that are RIGHT.

For example - A very poor man and his family break into an empty house and live in it. This is WRONG. So the landlord has to kick them out right? But what if he finds out they are so poor, that they have nowhere to live and their baby is starving and it is freezing outside. And the parents are honest, and looking for jobs, and as soon as they find something, they will move out, or pay rent.... ??? It doesn't make it RIGHT --- but fixing the WRONG, will cause a lot of damage - it may turn the family to CRIME.

See? The RIGHT thing, would be to report your dad -- but look at all the damage it could do to your family. And he HAS served his country, so doesn't deserve to go to prison (which is what will happen if he is found guilty of fraud). And he HAS a family to look after (you included!)...

And - it is VERY possibly that you don't know the whole truth. Perhaps your dad only SAYS its a fraud... but he's just being "macho"...
Doctors won't just lie that easily - if they get caught, they will lose their jobs and be struck off....

So - perhaps, in this case, this is one of those WRONGS that will cause more damage if it 'fixed'.

There are people who get paid to prevent fraud, people who are monitoring doctors to be honest. Let THEM do their job.

Think about it carefully. Then make a decision.

He served and he deserves it very much. anyone that gives their life to the military to protect our country for whatever reason should have great benefits through our government.
Your dad might have emotional issues due to the Vietnam Conflict and didn't deal with it and it's the only way he knows.
Wish though that he would consider counseling.
Your father came home, my brother did not.
Give your dad a hug and see if he'll talk about his time at sea.

How can you be so sure it was not Agent Orange that made him sick? You cannot know for sure. I think that the doctor is in a position to have all the facts. He may have had some information that you're not privy to. No patient can force a doctor to sign false documents, unless he's coersed.... and I don't believe that was the case.

Wow your a smart little girl to assume you know what could have caused your fathers heart attack. Furthermore the fact that he is a Vet is reason enough for him to get VA benefits. Shut your damn mouth and mind your own business this man fought for the freedom you have in this county. Bet if he died you sure wouldn't have bitched about the survivor benefits would you.

in my opinion, having grown up in a violent anti-feminist residing house, I basically choose different little ones to be able to develop up in a non-violent residing house. i do not care if there are one or 2 mother and father, or no matter if both or one replaced into male or female. i do not extremely care who's in a house, see you later because the youngsters are secure, cared for, and loved. by some ability, this seems previous many societies purposes, which incorporates the U. S.. btw: If the overall public of households interior the U. S. at the on the spot are made from unmarried moms, why does not the overall public of kin complications be linked with them? at the same time as the overall public of households were made from adult males and women human beings, and there have been infrequently any unmarried moms or fathers, weren't the overall public of kin complications linked with male/female households? otherwise, if the overall public of households are made from unmarried fathers, will households miraculously don't have any kin complications? possibly all adult males ought to easily accept custody of all little ones, and we are going to see how they take care of "kin topics", and we are going to see the stats in 10 years, with somewhat of luck, all kin complications will be lengthy gone and women human beings will favor to artwork outdoors the houses and help the male nurturers.

If you have proof of this the doctor can loose his licence. So find the proof and send it to the proper authorities and send it anonymously. Nobody has to know it was you.

Mind our own business. So many vets get the shaft as it is.

If you are that concerned then tell him what he is doing is wrong in your opinion and offer to pay his medical bills yourself.
