Look around you man.........can you honestly with a straight face say there is a rational being, that there is an idea or ideal that is rational and that that rationality has been played out on the stage of earth in a rational way. I think my man you have the question backwards, upside down and without any rationality at all. \

Why should a rational God believe in any irrational beings.

A rational being would require some explanation for all the irrational things like miracles or strange phenomenon. Although some rational people are willing to let these unexplained events remained unexplained, some, in their insecurities, will look at more supernatural reason, such as G-d, spirits and etc.

Your question presupposes the "perfection" in rationality. I'd rather believe in an "irrational" God, one who made my, and your, very existence possible, who can condemn us to everlasting misery, the degree of which is unknown to mankind to date, or can make us happier than the small human mind could ever conceive of. So why should a rational human being believe in an irrational God? Because it's the smarter, and more rational, thing to do. God Bless you.

Believing in irrational gods makes one no longer rational.

As for "why", I'd say comfort and fear.

God Himself is extremely rational, He's the most logical, most intelligent being in existence. It's just the way people describe Him that sometimes isn't so rational.

You seem to be a very irrational being who can't relate to rationality.

What is irrational about God? I find him consistent and rational. Are you sure you are rational?

God isn't irrational; God is transrational.

And we also aren't simply rational; we're much more than that. We have faculties of knowing which transcend the rational, although rationalists may wish to excise those portions of themselves because they make them uncomfortable.

Our love, our longing, our suffering, our sense of beauty and loss and fragility, all these also make us human, and all these are also avenues of knowledge. Even the knowledge of God.

Put down your intellect for a moment and go into your heart. Then start talking about God. Perhaps you may even be capable of poetry... or prayer... or faith.

Who says God is irrational? You really haven't read the bible, have you? And it's obvious you have no faith or charity, as those are the central issues surrounding your false assumption.

Deal with your anger before you wind up doing something really stupid and spending a good part of your life in jail.

Rationality isn't everything in this life. Beliefs and trust and being a good person are more important.
