Peachface lovebirds will generally incubate for 21-28 days before the eggs hatch. The reason for the variation in time is because not all females will begin to incubate the eggs as soon as she lays them. Some wait until there are a few eggs before sitting tightly. I've never had a peachface lovebird egg hatch past the 28th day from being laid.

The incubation of lovebird eggs is between 21 and 26 days, depending on when the hen starts sitting on them. By the way, different species of birds have different incubation periods. With canaries it is 13 -14 days.

Does she only do it when your scratching behind her ears? If so I wouldn't worry, it's very unlikly that something is wrong. Birds express emotions differently than we do. Whenever I scratch my amazon parrot in a place he loves he willvery gently grip my other finger with his beak, or sometimes make a hooting noise. Generally the opening of the mouth indicates a cretain level of trust, and if her mouth ever fills with fluid while you are doing this, that means she really loves you. (Also I would suggest you stop as it's a sign of wanting to mate with you, which can make bird-human relations diffacult to say the least). If she does it at random though, or exceptionally frequently, I would take her to a certified Avian vet immdiatly, as it could be an indication of a respatory problem, or infection.

The correct time is 21 days for all birds. Now depending on how long the parents sit on the eggs the eggs could hatch faster then 21 days because of the heated tempeture of the parents bodies depending on the time of year. For instance birds who we breed in the summer months can come out of the nest box more often because there is no threat of cool air touching their eggs as there is in the winter time, when the parents have to sit on the eggs more often to keep their eggs warm at all times. The eggs in the summer months tend to hatch faster and with more surviving chicks then those in the cold winter months. I have raising all kinds of birds for 20 yrs now.
