I dont want my hair any shorter, in fact im trying to grow it out a lot by summer, but i want to get rid of these tragic looking split ends. My friend said that you can get your hair wet, put on some vitamin E conditioner, and run a lighter up and down and it'll take off the split ends, but im afraid it will damage my hair even worse, or start it on fire. has anyone ever tried that? are there any ways to get rid of split ends without a haircut?

In order to get rid of split ends you have to cut them off completely. Even if only a millimeter of the split end is left it will continue to split. Treatments for split ends will help them appear healthier temporarily, but they don't get rid of them. If you continue to grow your hair out and never cut them off, they will continue to split and you'll just have to cut your hair even shorter to completely get rid of them. As much as you hate to hear it, you need to and should cut them off. When you have completely cut them off, then you can use products and proper haircare to keep your hair healthy and split-end free and grow it longer. It will look much better that way.

NEVER, NEVER, EVER use fire or open flame on your hair!!!! There is no "remedy" for split ends. The only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. If they are that bad and you will end up taking half your hair off then I would recommend trimming a half inch every 5 to 6 weeks until they are gone and keep trimming every 6 weeks to prevent more. Plus using good professional product and weekly deep conditioning treatments will keep your hair in a healthier condition.

A good trim always works good for split ends. That's what I do for mine. It also helps your hair grow faster.I have tried different hair products for my hair but none of them ever helps with the split ends. There is no way that I would ever put a lighter to my hair. It sounds too dangerous to me. I have never heard of this before.

"Placenta" packs work really good, but if your ends are really damaged the only thing that would improve the appearance of your hair would be to get a trim.

i don't want to sound mean but there is no such thing as a split end. when you look at hair under a microscope you see one long thin cylinder.

Once your hair is split there is nothing you can do but trim it.
