Do you do it for the heck of it or do you actually think you are making a change here or making your mark?

I ask this because I've seen many an atheist defend Atheism with the same dogmatic tone used by belivers, which entails the risk of Atheism being seen as yet another religion, and therefore shedding its rational aura, to put it somehow.

Couldn't you, rational atheists, notice by my tone that I am, in fact, an Atheist???

OK, here I go again, in case you didn't get it:

I AM AN ATHEIST

First of all, we're not trying to start a religion of atheism. And we're not picking on Christians because they're an easy mark. On the contrary, they are a powerful, political force, which is a problem. Our lives are constantly being controlled by so-called Christian values. We have a real problem when our president claims that he believes that God wanted him to be president. He feels that all his decisions are guided by God, therefore he must be right. You have powerful people in politics who want to do away with teaching evolution in schools. A friend of mine said to me, "Oh, you believe in the big bang, and that we came from monkeys?" , as she was rolling her eyes. I don't know where we came from, but the story of creation seems pretty hard to believe, also. I believe that nobody knows the answers that religions claim to have. And nobody will. But we're sick of laws on the books that are based on religious beliefs. The town commission in my area believes there shouldn't be the sale of alcohol on Sundays, because people should be in church. That's exactly what they said when it was put to vote. That's just a small example. There are plenty of sex laws on the books that have no reason except they're considered sinful, even though the acts cause no harm between consenting adults. I'm not a non-believer because I want to drink on Sundays or have sex with my wife in a way that's against the rules in your beliefs. I'm just sick of the closed-mindedness of you believers. " If the Bible said it, it's true. end of arguement!" "The Bible is the word of God. I know this because the Bible tells me so." Do you not see a problem with that statement? I was reading CoramDeo's answer and what he calls "logic". I just had to shake my head and say, "Oh God!!"

I agree that the way atheists act sometimes is unwarranted. I do not think favorably of religion in general, but I do try to treat people as individuals.

I do not agree with the implication that no one is swayed by the debate that goes on here.

I stand as living proof that debate between theists and atheists can indeed start a process of discovery and change in one's worldview.

No one can convert another person, of course - that they have to do themselves. But the debate that goes on gives them the information and the opportunity to convert/deconvert if they so choose.

a minimum of we don't threaten you like Christians threaten non-Christians. what's up with all this undeserved entitlement? you are able to insult others yet they can't insult you? heavily. the whole dogma is predicated upon which you're acceptable and everybody is incorrect. which you're "purified" and "reliable" via Jesus on an analogous time as everybody else is a grimy rag. And in the event that they have not got faith in God, they're immoral and do terrible deeds. And btw, ninety% of the international is going to be tortured for all eterinity on the palms of a "all loving" and "all useful" and "all understanding" diety. So do no longer throw up throughout me and get mad because of the fact I burp on your familiar path. And by utilising the way, the load of information is on you, no longer me.

Typically it's just a return volley. Check some of the questions that get hit the hardest, they're blatant attacks on something.

Personally, I tend to discredit false claims or poke holes into bad logic. Rarely if ever attack some nut case, because it's exactly what they typically want.

May as well tack the truth on to some of the false claims, helps people realize that the original 'question' was false. At least if they even bother to think about it.

Logic demands that you are to prove what IS, not what ISN"T.

Since they come out by saying "There is no God", they are already illogical, because to prove a negative would require them to search the universe in order to prove it. Of courde, it's a lot easier to utter an unsubstantiated claim and run away, like a tagger. They just do'nt have a pinch of proof!
But, on the other hand, Christians have their prove. It's hard to deny the reality around us and say it created itself!

Yes, you've put it somehow ...admitting atheism has at least a rational aura.

Did you ever struggle with a math problem in school, and then suddenly the "light came on" and you "got it?"

That is what we hope will happen by exposing people to critical thinking, logic and reasoning. If one person in a thousand wakes up and escapes their theistic delusion, society as a whole is elevated.

YES atheism, as 'self-proclaimed athiests' are in a way similar to religious people, in that they seek enlightenment. But other athiests are simply not interested in religion at all. Plus it's a chance to get back at the WEIRDOS who keep putting LEAFLETS through my DOOR!

Atheism is not a religion, it simply a personal belief that God does not exist. Some of us just think that believing a myth (God) is silly (my word)... so we can't sit still and watch believers make fools of themselves.

they think that religion is a bad thing, and makes people irrational/delusional. they use crusades and middle eastern wars as examples, along with most of the work of conservative churches (churches that care about sexual preference more than charity).
