after no help from the bus driver or the school system,. the logical next step is the other boys parents. and if that doesn't work, the next step is the police. i know that sounds harsh, but it is an assault.
and i have never heard of this game.

Firstly there is no need to apologise for rambling. this is a very serious issue and as a parent myself I am glad you have brought it to my attention.
I have never heard of that particular 'game' but I will tell my children to be aware of it.
What happened to your son was an assault. I don't care how old the child was who did it, he needs to be spoken to by someone in authority and can't be allowed to get away with it Your son was lucky, but as you have already said, someone has already died from this sort of attack and it needs stopping NOW before anyone else gets killed.
You are right to tell your son not to hit back. Why should he lower his standards to that of a thug who only hits others because it makes him feel good?
I would talk to the School, then the police and then the media and make it more widely known that this sort of thing is happening and for parents to tell their children about the dangers etc.
I am sorry your son was attacked and I hope he is ok now.
Take care and good luck x

Apology accepted I can understand why you're upset. Sylvia hit the nail on the head there. If the bus driver and the district won't do or say anything, take it to the parents. And if that doesn't work, press charges on the kid and/or his parents (however that works out) on behalf of your son. That does qualify as assault and battery. I'm in Illinois so that is how it works here the terminology and definition may differ slightly in South Carolina, but it still the same principle. And I have never heard of this game, or bully tactic, but kids can be cruel and thoughtless, but that doesn't make them immune to consequences. It just makes their parents more vulnerable. Stick it to 'em!

I have never heard of such, but whoever knows about the games kids play these days. I, myself, have a 15 year old son and the things that I hear from him are sometimes unbelievable!
If you get no satisfaction from the bus driver or school, how about the school board. If you make an issue of it, as I think you should, they would be bound to do something.
Good luck!

Yes, I've heard of this game. I have 3 boys, 14, 9 and 8...and hubby.
Hubby started it.....as a way to teach them quicker reflexes. Which, if done right, it does. When done wrong (by bullies) it's painful.
Basically, it's slapping the other's chest, and if they cover fast enough they don't get hit. Or if they block it. Do I approve?
Not a bit! So I put a stop to it in the house.

Kids these days are playing all sorts of dangerous "games" as they call them. I suggest you go straight to the school board with this, and try to have this kid suspended at least for hitting your son in the chest like that. And in such situations, kids have to stand up for themselves. I remember being in situations that could have escalated if I hadn't stood up for myself, and that includes physically defending oneself if needs be. Your kid shouldn't go around hitting people but if some kid is hitting on him, he's gotta fight back! He could get picked on more if he just stands by and takes it.
Either way, go to higher authorities and demand that this little punk be reprimanded. You may want to consider finding another mode of transportation for your son, otherwise.

This is assalt. Call the police!
My 13 year old knew of this game and explained it to me like this: the boys stand around talking and protect their chests with their arms (kinda like a boxing stance). If anyone lets their guard down then some one else pops them in the chest declaring "open chest"
I had to ask cause I'd never hear of it either.

wow. Take him to the doctor to make sure there are no fractured ribs or damage (hemorrages) in his internal organs! This is a serious matter! After that, go to the police and maybe sue the school?!! or the parents of the boy!
