It will not work, an 8 bit disk cannot start up a 32 bit machine, at all!

Nothing will happen. Winxp is 32 bit and it won't read the FAT version of Win 3.1.

Why would you even think of doing that? Besides you can't boot from a floppy to load WinXP. It's not even possible to boot to WinXP from any boot disk.

The system will (probably) boot to dos, but you probably won't be able to access the hard disk if it was formatted as NTFS. Even if it wasn't, your 3.1 boot disk probably also can't read a fat32 partition, so more than likely, you won't be able to get to the hard drive at all. Some of the other devices probably also wont work.

You essentially would not be booting XP. You would be booting off a floppy disk. There is no Windows 3.1 boot disk, Windows 3.1 runs on top of DOS.

You may be able to get the machine to boot from a DOS6 floppy, but XP won't start and you won't be able to access the hard drive.
DOS6 doesn't read FAT32 or NTFS.
