We have a cuttle bone in there for them, but she won't chew on it or any of the other things we have in the cage for them. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to have to take her to the vet to have it trimmed if it's not absolutely neccessary.

Pleasee take your bird to an avain certified vet immediately (find one near you here: www.aav.org/vet-lookup ) this is becoming a problem and DO NOT try this yourself because you could seriously injure your bird. if you are hesitant to take her to a vet, you shouldn't be because it is your responsibility to take care of your bird because their life depends on you and you should have considered that before you bought it. Your bird is probably in a lot of pain right now because she can't eat! please take her to a vet asap!!! it is absolutely neccessary. hope this helps and good luck!

If your bird isn't chewing on her cuttle bone and other wooden toys to keep her beak trimmed then the only other option is to take her to a vet or breeder that knows how to trim a beak. It is not a good thing to try and do it yourself.

It is already causing her a problem if you are already concerned. If you can't file it or clip it yourself, I would take her to the vet. No amount of cuttle bone or lava rock is going to help the beak out at this point. This happens when the parakeets begin getting too old to take care of themselves, or may need to have grit placed in a bowl for them to chew on. good luck!

amazingly enough i just had this problem with my parakeet. She may be lacking certain nutrients in her food ask your local pet store. I know this is weird but I just took a pair of really sharp scissors and clipped it off my self and he is happy and eating and singing. Just cut it off where you know it should be. It does not hurt them like cutting a finger nail.

If you have a toy thats hard he or she won't play with it becuase it hurts there beck, so give them a softer toy or food, like grapes or watermelon, as for the toy, pet co. has soooooooooooooooo many toys i'm sher you'll find one soft toy.
