It usually take a few (3-4) days for your dog to recover from a spay. But it can be shorter or longer depending on the size of your dog; it usually is shorter for large dogs and longer for little dogs. Some dogs are better by the second day, but it depends on the anesthetic used.

I have only had two dogs done before, but both of them were the same the next day. The only trouble I had was they wanted to keep licking to wound as all dogs do and they pulled their stitches out before time.

In my experience females can take up to two weeks to feel better but not 100%. it is just like a woman getting a histerectomy (spelling?).It is major surgery. If she has a good vet , she should be herself again, slightly calmer, in a month or so.

mine took 2 days for the anesthesia to wear off and to get her appetite back. then another 8 days of dealing with a cone around her neck while waiting for the sutures to come out. after that, she was pretty much her normal crazy self.
