I dyed my hair black in october and then tried to lighten it in november with very little result. I bought a color-stripper which says then I can re-dye my hair right away, so I bought a dark blonde color. Will this work or is there a better way? Thanks!

Thank you to all for your answers!! I'm glad I asked before I tried to do it myself! I think I am just going to let it grow out for a while. The color now has faded to a dark brown and doesn't look bad and my hair is still in good condition. I'll go to a professional in the spring:)

color stripping is probably the only thing that will work.
unfortunately it may require stripping more than once to get it light enough to dye it blonde. or it may turn your hair orange. and it will be damaging.
it is impossible to dye black out of your hair.
next time you should try a semi-permanent.

You need to have this taken care of by a professional. I have answered many a question regarding black dye because a close friend of mine went through the experience and I got to watch it up close. Let me tell you what is probably going to happen if you go the route you mentioned in your question. You'll put the color stripper on your head, and when you rinse it off the color will look horrible (either an odd shade of unnatural red or orange) and chances are it will be a bit streaky. You will then try applying the stripper again, which will only further damage the hair and lighten the odd color slightly. Then you'll try to dye the blonde over it, but the color won't completely cover the bleached shade and the resulting color will be, again, horrible. If the blonde somehow does cover the weird-stripped shade (although I highly doubt it will completely) the color will begin to fade in less than a week. Black hair dye is the hardest of any other pigment to remove from hair. So hard in fact that some hair salons aren't even willing to try to strip it for you for fear of severe hair damage. (as the amount of bleach and time it has to be left on to lighten the hair to a half-decent shade is horrendous) The least damaging thing a salon can do for you is bleach and tone highlights. The hairstylist will bleach pieces of hair to be highlighted, and then apply a toner on the bleached pieces to darken them slightly to make them look less brassy and more natural. Most often these highlights will appear a very dark red. The absolute healthiest thing you could do for your head is to let it grow out. Since you probably don't want to do that, I would seriously recommend letting a professional deal with this.

Hello!
Bringing hair up from black is the hardest and trickiest of them all.
If the color stripper doesn't lift the hair uniformly, you could end up with orange, green and red streaks/spots, which is in black hair dye. Or breakage. A dark blonde application will not appear as such, if the black isn't lifted out,
I urge you not to tackle this one yourself. This calls for a professional. They know exactly how to lift the hair, with the least amount of damage to the hair and then how to reapply a color of your choice. The cost to do this will be justify a good outcome.
Good Luck!
Wishing you beautiful hair :)

My suggestion would be (trust me I am the hair dying queen) Go to a hairstylist and let them straighten it out right. You would rather pay the money now than mess your hair up and still have to go to a hairstylist. Plus you would be more embrassed to go in if your hair was messed up. So save yourself the trouble let someone else do it, plus you get the relaxation of someone else doing the work and pamper your hair.

P.S. My hairstylist told me that If you have high-lighted hair and you put a "darker color" on it that is always healthier for your hair...any time you lighten the hair which involves a bleaching process it damages the hair more, but when your go back to your natural color or a darker color it is actually healthy for your hair....but in your situation I would still recommend seeing a hairstylist for help.....

I wouldn't suggest you put a dark blonde over your hair right away after you use the color stripper. If my memory serves me correctly, the color stripper is damaging to your hair as well as the black color you already put in your hair. If you are wanting to take your hair to a blonde color that is going to break your hair off because to get your hair that light, they are using approximately 40% of peroixde which is very damaging to hair. On top of that, I don't think that your hair will turn to the desired color of blonde due to the previous color in your hair. I would suggest you put a Aphogee Hair Treatment in your hair to stop the damage from your hair. I would also recommend that you see a cosmetologist that can properly assist you in getting your hair the color that you desire. It is very hard to go from black color hair to blonde, I know this because I am a cosmetologist and I learned by doing color. I hope this helps you out.

if your hair is dark keep in mind that most hair colors will only lift 3 levels when i say lift i mean lighten to get your hair darker you deposit color and does not penetrate the cortex. So to answer your question it truly depends on what color ( brand) you are using. There are plenty of store products that will take you lighter and get you what you want. So it can be done!!!!!

When you dye your hair so often, you are going to shock your hair so badly that it will be destroyed. My sister did this and much of her hair ended up falling out. I would give your hair some rest period between dyeing periods and would then decide to dye it again, but you cannot dye it so fast after you just have, because the hair will be so shocked from the first dye that it will be ruined if you keep doing it.

Ouch! Your killing your hair...you may wanna wait a bit before doing such a drastic color change again. You will need to bleach your hair in order to get it lighter (especially if you want it very light, like blondish). Best bet is to go to a salon and have a pro do it.

The best way is to find a color between your old color and your current. This mellows it then continue because going dark then light is damaging to the roots so do it gradually.

be sure to read the directions for lighting your hair and if i was you i would wait a few days before coloring your hair again. at least give it a little time to gain stregth back because lighting agents for the hair are very harsh.
