A Standard Poodle is your best bet. It's a very large dog, they do not shed and are great pets and terrific around children. You do NOT have to give them a ridiculous haircut; they are very attractive dogs with the fur natural.

All dogs shed, just some shed more then others. Curly coated retrieve they are like a "labradoodle" but have a coat tha curls tightly to the skin has the loalty of a retiever. Poodles are great, highly intellegent and energetic. Alot of the water dogs have coat that don't shed. Make sure you get from a reputable breeder. rember designer dogs are cross breeds don't pay a rediculious price for a mongrel! Don't buy from petshops as you have no idea what the parents are like or where they came from. The parent will tell you heaps about the pups!
Best of Luck in finding a dog :) Make sure you do your research.

Reality check WARNING: 'Labradoodles' Goldendoodles' and all the other made-up cutesy named poodle MIXES are not shed free, hypoallergenic or any other things gullible people believe: genetically, they can lean more toward either parent as they are MIXES & nothing can be guaranteed about them!
Standard poodles would be your least shedding large breed, and well-bred ones are good with kids. Others breeds to check into: Airedale Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier (& any other Terrier that has a coat that need to be cut), Portugese Water Dog, Irish Water Spaniel. You can see them at www.akc.org, and also find reputable breeders there. Good luck!

A standard Poodle would be great for you I think. They are pretty large, does need frequent grooming, doesn't shed, great nature, easy to train, a little difficult to housebreak, great with people, good with other non-canine pets.
To the morons that say if you cross a Poodle with a dog that sheds, the dog probably WILL shed! Having Poodle bloodlines doesn't mean the dog will not shed at all. Some backyard breeder made that up to sell more mutts to idiots that are foolish enough to buy them.

Afghan Hounds don't shed like a normal dog, they shed like a person, and they are good with kids and pretty lovable. All breeds of dogs shed, some just shed less than others. You could also get a Poodle, but I wouldn't recommend them as they can be hyper, temperamental, can have severe health problems.

All dogs will shed a least a bit. Poodles are known as non shedding dogs, they shed lightly. Bog dogs and kids are not always a great combo, an older 5+ year old dog and kids is you best bet since they will be already trained and will listen to your commands.

All dogs shed to an extent.
Retrievers are widely well-known for being good family dogs, but it's all in the upbringing and early socialization; theoretically, ANY dog who has been brought up around children and trained properly can be a wonderful family dog.

Standard poodle. Some of the larger terriers do not shed but, I'm not sure about temperament with kids.

sorry to say this but alll dogs shed to some extent but i suggest you either go for the poodle, alsation, doberman or the great dane which are really friendly but they need a lot of excercise.i suggest that you dont go for the rotwielere as it is a jealous dog and may attack a kid when it comes near his/her master

standard poodle, labradoodle, soft coated wheaten terrier, Portuguese water dog/ hound, Giant schnauzer.
For small kids be careful to get a well bred wheaten... terriers (well, any dog) can go either way if not carefully bred for temperament- dd
google single coat dog or hypoallergenic dog.- dd
