The older style Televisions by Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Phillips etc are still superior in picture quality. Plasmas need to have their gas screens re-filled on a regular basis and both them and LCD's have significant blurring problems with sports and sometimes action scenes. They all look great in the shops because they're only usually showing Pixar movies with the contrast on full to grab your attention. Don't get me wrong, I expect I will get an LCD in the future, but not until they've improved. What's the point in spending at least 3 times the amount of money on a picture that's not even up to the old standards?
If you insist on keeping up with the Jones's, log onto Digital Direct.co.uk, as they seem to have the best deals that I've seen recently, saving you hundreds of pounds.

I just recently purchased a 50" samsung plasma after looking for a month at both plasma's and LCD's. With everything I learned I went with plasma because of the price for the size, quality and warranty. The 60,000 brightness life is great as well. Nothing against lcd, but for the size we got, lcd couldn't come close to price.

That site describes the main issues, but many people consider that plasma screens use more power and have a shorter lifetime than LCD screens, but they are brighter and have a better viewing angle. Guess you need to check the specs.

I am still on 28-inch 4 by 3 Sony Trinitron (CRT) that has a really fabulous picture after goodness knows how many years - I go round the shops but in all honesty the monster screens that are at a price I could afford do not yet have a picture to match.

I think I'll wait until hi-def gets more established.

I just check out the page. That page sponsored by Hitachi Pioneer and Panasonic. which is huge player in plasma, of course they're going to make plasma look better and make LCD look bad. But in real life both technology have advantages and disadvantages. You must see and judge for your self in real by see the unit directly.
