Start off buy calling your local county jail. Tell them there name and birthday. And they will tell you if there, their If so ask for there booking number. That number follows the inmate were ever he gos. The jails like to move the inmates to other jails, but in the same county. If there in state prison, when you call the county jail they should let you know that and be sure they give you that number. Sometimes they will give it to you or you just have to ask them.

all depends. some counties have an "inmate checker" on their website.
for example, i live in orange county, ca. the orange county sherrif's department (www.ocsd.org) allows me to check inmates in the whole county.
try looking up the website for the sherrif's department in your county.
