That sound has been frequently nicknamed "the sound of silence." In reality, you either have tinnitus or (too much) wax in your ear. If you have just cleaned your ears and you can still hear it, then you may have tinnitus. The web link below will tell you more about it.
One famous person who has tinnitus is William Shatner (Captain Kirk from the original/oldest Star Trek T.V. series).
