We recently ended our relationship but he hasn't completely acknowledged that we're through. It's been a few days now and I'm wondering if some time away from each other would be best.

He invited me on a "friendly" trip to the country but I don't want to lead him on. Would going send the wrong message or am I taking his invitation too seriously?

If you broke up with him, don't go. He is going to try to "hook up".

Yes, it would definatly send the wrong message...if you're really serious about the break up- going on the trip will only give him the wrong impression.

Sounds like he has other "things" in mind. Honestly, if your break-up is recent, you should give things at least 90 days to settle.

He prolly still want to be with you and wants to see if this trip with him will make you reconsider your break up. If you really dont want to be with him then dont go, but if you do then maybe you should go and see if your relaitonship is worth saving
