In the event of god's existence being proved, to me as an atheist, it would be kinda funny, so I might give it a chuckle. Kind of "Well, so much for that idea..." But most of all, if god proved its existence, I wouldn't necessarily instantly convert to worshipping it - I'd ask it questions. Just because something you didn't think exists turns out to exists, it doesn't necessarily means that it does what someone else claims it does.

I'd ask it questions with an open mind and an open heart. And possibly a laugh if the joke turned out to be on me. Why the faithful would cry I'm not sure, except of course that many many people think they're faithful to the "right" interpretation of god, even though that's diametrically opposed to many other interpretations. If god said to them 'err..that's really not what I meant, you know?" I wonder how many would accept their wrongness, and how many would hold to their view, and declare the god that had spoken to them to be "false" or some demon "pretending" to be god? How many believers would be prepared to acknowledge that "their" god might not agree with their interpretation of its will?

Part of my personal belief about God is that there is no proof. If God was proven to exist then as my beliefs about God are my own and not exactly the same as those of any established religion then I would wonder as to which God had been proven.
Essentially my idea of God can not be proven to exist and if some other version of God was proven I may convert to that religion, or perhaps not.

Here's the real question...is the existence of God even provable or disprovable. By God's very nature it may not be possible to empirically "prove" either way. As such your question is relatively meaningless.

If the existence of a God was ever proved, there would be no more 'faithful' or 'atheists'.

It [the God] would just BE (some kind of superalien, presumably), you wouldn't need 'faith' or 'belief' and you couldn't 'disbelieve'.

Check out William Paley (Watchmaker Analogy) or the Anthropic Principle.

firstly if god is disproved i believe the atheists would laugh and vice versae bot as you state above..

it hardly seems worth an atheist crying if he is told god is fictitious....

"yeah like i knew that already, boo hoo"

I dont think anyone cares/ differs too much and really isnt worth defending your life over...

There is no such thing, how many times do i have to tell you bible bashers that god is merely the lead character in a very old novel. You might as well call Jack Duckworth from Corrie god and worship him - its the same thing. You die, they stick you in a box, worms eat you - end of. But if you your life is so empty and shallow that you need someone who buggers choirboys to tell you how to live your life then you're already as good as dead.

Buzzard, I am a Christian, but the only way that will be proved is upon the fulfillment of scriptures. Beyond that, ther is no scientifically proveable evidence. To me, a moot point for now.
